Feature Friday: Report in Loops

Mail & Deploy is made to meet the specific reporting needs of every single decision-maker in your company and give them all insights. So they can gain a more complete understanding of the data. Cycle actions can be used to repeat a certain sub-set of actions for each value of a data source field.

Happy #Feature Friday!

Businesses are now more than ever exposed to fast-changing information. As human beings have a systematic tendency initially to overlook weak signals, then to overreact to emerging issues before they eventually take a more calibrated view, it is critical right now for managers and decision-makers to look at the same data in their business analyses from various perspectives.

Modern Data Discovery and Analytics tools like Qlik® provide us with this ability to view data in a way that we want to view it. Qlik® allows us to quickly change and customize our viewpoints. But it is up to us to leverage that opportunity appropriately in this time of crisis and incorporate this change of viewpoint in a consistent reporting as well.

Mail & Deploy, the Reporting Suite for QlikView and Qlik Sense, supports decision-makers to change their views of their information by creating flexible and insightful reports in loops (e.g. one report per field value) with the following feature:

Cycle Actions

Let us suppose, you have a QlikView document or Qlik Sense applications that contains 4 sales regions: North, East, South and West. Each sales region has several sales representatives assigned and you want to create one report for each sales representative for each region.

For multiple versions of this report, you could create a task that cycles through all sales representatives and creates a report and distributes it.

Edit: Cycle Actions

Cycle actions can be used to repeat a certain sub-set of actions for each value of a data source field.

In detail, you can set the following attributes:

Datasource Field

The data source field from which to read values to cycle over.

Field Value Selector

The field value selector that determines which values of the data source field shall be used for the cycle.

  • All Values.
If you use this selector, all values of the data source field will be used for the cycle, regardless of the current filter state of the data source.

  • Applicable Values.
If you use this selector, only those values of the data source field will be used for the cycle which is compatible with the current filter state of the data source.

  • Filtered Values.
If you use this selector, only those values of the data source field will be used for the cycle to which the data source field is explicitly filtered.

Sort Order

This setting determines in which order the values will be processed by the cycle.

  • None.
No specific sort order will be used and the values will be used in the exact order in which they have been read from the data source.

  • Ascending.
The values of the data source field will be processed by the cycle in ascending order.

  • Descending. The values of the data source field will be processed by the cycle in descending order.

Value Name

The name of the variable with which the current cycle value can be referenced in expressions which are used in any of the actions of the cycle.

Exception Behaviour

Determines what Mail & Deploy shall do if the execution of one of the actions of the cycle causes an exception.

  • Do Not Handle.
If you select this behaviour, any exception caught by the cycle action will not be handled and passed on to the parent action container.

  • Cancel Cycle.
If you select this behaviour, any exception caught by the cycle action will lead to the complete cycle to be cancelled, but no exception will be passed on to the parent action container.

  • Continue With Next Action.
If you select this behaviour, any exception caught by the cycle will lead to cycle execution to be continued with the next action. No exception will be passed on to the parent action container.
  • Continue With Next Value.
If you select this behaviour, any exception caught by the cycle will lead to the cycle to be continued with the next value.

Actions

This is a list of actions which will be executed for each cycle value. To add actions within the cycle use the right mouse button when the cycle action is selected.

Preparation Actions

This is a list of actions which will be executed before the cycle values are evaluated and before the actions of the cycle will be executed. These actions can, for instance, be used to filter the data source field from which the cycle values are derived so the number of cycle values is limited.

Preparation Actions

Mail & Deploy is made to meet the specific reporting needs of every single decision-maker in your company and give them all insights. So they can gain a more complete understanding of the data.

The feature “Cycle Actions” in Mail & Deploy gives you full power in generating and distribution your user-specific and data-driven reports from QlikView and Qlik Sense for your various report recipients. There are no restrictions upon the filter value and the exception behaviour of your report cycle.
