Feature Friday: Email Alert Settings

With the email alert system you can set that if task XY does not run successfully, an email notification is automatically sent to users (groups) A, B and C, who can then take care of the error analysis.

It is #Feature Friday again!

IT and BI teams are currently busier than ever because of the worldwide pandemic. In companies and organizations, normal operations are turned upside down.

At present, it is important to secure the business and prepare the company accordingly for the future. At such a time, it is important that all systems and processes, especially in the Information Technology and Business Intelligence departments, run smoothly in the background.

Reporting automation that optimizes routine processes and gets accurate insights at the fingertips of your managers and executives fast, is, therefore, more in demand than ever.

With Mail & Deploy, we provide an automated reporting solution for Qlik® that reduces the time it takes to do your reports out of QlikView® and Qlik Sense® from hours to minutes. Furthermore, Mail & Deploy offers extensive monitoring features, so that, the time and the workload can be reduced considerably as well.

In this #Feature Friday episode, we will glance at the following Mail & Deploy monitoring feature:

E-Mail Alert System

By using the e-mail alert feature of Mail & Deploy, users can automatically be notified by e-mail if a task execution does not successfully complete.

E-Mail Alert Settings

The following attributes can be set:

Trigger

This setting controls which conditions need to be fulfilled in order to send the notification e-mail to the specified users.

  • None.
If you set this trigger, a notification e-mail is never sent.

  • Task Execution Result Contains Any Exception.
If you set this trigger, a notification e-mail will be sent if the log file of the task execution contains any exception.

  • Task Execution Result Contains Any Warning.
If you set this trigger, a notification e-mail will be sent if the log file of the task execution contains any exception.

  • Task Execution Failed.
If you set this trigger, a notification email will be sent if the execution of the task has failed.

E-Mail Server

The e-mail server to use to send the e-mail.

Sender E-Mail Address

The sender e-mail address to use to send the e-mail.

Reply-To E-Mail Address

The reply-to e-mail address to use.

Recipients

This is a list of users and/or user groups to send the notification e-mail to if the conditions defined by the attribute Trigger are fulfilled. The recipient list is only visible if the attribute Trigger is not set to None.

Recipients can be managed using the following buttons:

Click this button to add a new recipient; a context menu will open that allows you to select which type of recipient you want to create.

Click this button to remove the currently selected recipient.

With the email alert system you can set that if task XY does not run successfully, an email notification is automatically sent to users (groups) A, B and C, who can then take care of the error analysis.

The E-Mail Alert System of Mail & Deploy offers greater control over the execution of tasks and is a welcomed feature for Qlik® administrators. They get the right perspective and can move fast to keep downtime for the business-critical reporting process as low as possible or even avoid it completely.
